Free bus travel for job seekers

Alison Mackie

In January, on Arriva, First, Stage Coach and National Express,  job seekers who have been unemployed from 3 months to 1 yr can get free bus travel in January.

Job seekers must have a JobCentre Plus Travel Discount Card.

Those who are eligible for the card, which is available through JobCentre Plus, include people claiming Jobseekers’ Allowance, Incapacity Benefit, Employment and Support Allowance or Income Support and actively engaged with a Jobcentre Plus adviser in returning to employment. It is being publicised locally by the participating bus companies. Jobcentre Plus staff are actively promoting it to those looking for work and full details of the scheme are available on a specially created website:

Bus Route 770 is being reviewed by Metro

Alison Mackie

Are you a traveller on the 770 bus service from Bramham? Do you want to sign a petition to try and stop the 770 proposed cuts?

The Parish Council has been advised that the Metro are reviewing the 770 bus service and we understand that ten Sunday evening journeys on the Wetherby - Leeds routes X99 and 770 are threatened.

As well as Wetherby, the communities of Thorner, Bramham, Clifford, Boston Spa, Thorp Arch, Scarcroft, Bardsey, East Keswick, Collingham and Linton will be affected.

There is a petition which is currently in the Wetherby Whaler and Save The Children in Wetherby, that you may want to sign to try and stop these cuts. It already has over 100 signatures in Wetherby alone and there continues to be be more publicity in the Wetherby News.

Metro have also arranged a drop-in consultation session at Wetherby Town Hall on Thursday 14 February 2013 between 10am and 2pm.  We will update this page with any further news on this.
